High Growth SMEs
A support programme designed to supercharge business growth across the West Midlands is back for a second year! After helping 50 small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) secure an estimated £20 million in growth and investment potential during its pilot phase.
Launched in 2024 and renewed in April 2025, the High Growth Accelerator is spearheaded by Mayor Richard Parker, with funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and delivery from economic consultancy Gateley Global, part of the professional services group Gateley.
Local Opportunity
Speaking on the success of the programme, Mayor Richard Parker said:
“The High Growth Programme has turbocharged 50 ambitious local businesses, helping them overcome barriers and seize new opportunities. They’ve already won £4 million in new investment and together, they’re on track to add another £15 million to their turnover.”
He added that this initiative aligns with his commitment to break the cycle of sluggish growth and drive inclusive prosperity across the region.
Diverse Sectors, Shared Success
The first year cohort featured SMEs from sectors including:
- Automotive & Engineering – Paragon Engineering, L&S Engineers
- Tech & Telecoms – Maybe Tech, Leopard
- Marketing & Creative Industries – Liquid, Tribera
- Social Enterprise & Consultancy – ASRA Smethwick
These businesses accessed a tailored suite of over 100 expert led services, from IP valuation and R&D support to capital allowances, leadership training and market expansion strategies.
Celebration of Impact
On 10 April 2025, the current cohort and stakeholders gathered at Gateley’s Birmingham office to celebrate the achievements so far. Keynotes came from Rod Waldie, CEO of Gateley, and Paul Edwards, WMCA’s head of economic development and delivery.
What’s Next?
As of 1st April 2025, the second cohort of 50 SMEs has begun their tailored growth journey with Gateley Global.
Rebecca Bekkenutte, Managing Director of Gateley Global reflected:
“We’ve seen results across productivity, job creation, revenue growth and expansion through investment and trade. We’re thrilled to continue supporting the next generation of West Midlands businesses.”
